Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning

... Flood Warning now in effect until Tuesday...

The Flood Warning continues for
the Pecatonica River at Freeport.
* Until Tuesday.
* At 10:30 am Wednesday the stage was 14.9 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring.
* Forecast, rise to 15.0 feet today, then begin falling. Fall to near 14 feet late
Thursday afternoon. The river is then expected to rise Friday morning and crest
around 15.6 feet by early Sunday morning.
* Impact, at 15.5 feet, numerous streets are closed north and south
of Illinois Highway 75 and water enters the first floor level of a
few homes. Water also begins to enter Taylor Park. Businesses
along Van Buren street north of the Pecatonica River are directly
affected by water.

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Stephenson County in northwestern Illinois...

* until 1015 am CST Thursday

* at 1010 am CST, emergency management reported flooding and Road
closures County-wide. Up to three inches of rain fell yesterday.
This in combination with a frozen ground will continue to lead to
flooding. Some flooded areas may get worse today as water
upstream flows into the area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Freeport, Lena, Pearl City, Cedarville, Davis, Dakota, German
Valley, Winslow, Rock City, Ridott, Buena Vista, Loran, Rock Grove,
Oneco, Orangeville, Kent, Eleroy, Damascus, Lake Le-Aqua-
Na State Park and MC Connell.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
