... A Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams remains in
effect until 1045 am CST Wednesday/1145 am EST Wednesday/ for
Kendall... La Salle... dupage... Cook... southern Boone... Livingston...
Southern Lake... Ogle... will... Lee... De Kalb... southern Winnebago...
Grundy... Kankakee... Ford... Kane... Iroquois... southern McHenry...
Benton... Porter... Newton... Lake and Jasper counties...

At 338 PM CST/438 PM EST/... Doppler radar and trained weather
spotters observed heavy rainfall of two to four inches across the
warned area with flooding likely occurring. Additional heavy
rainfall is expected into tonight and will likely worsen the ongoing
flooding. Flash flooding will remain a possibility in parts of the
warned area due to the additional heavy rainfall.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

the little Calumet River at South Holland.
* Until Wednesday afternoon.
* At 230 PM Tuesday the stage was 16.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.5 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
rise to near 16.8 feet by early Wednesday.The river will fall below
flood stage by Wednesday morning.

* At 945 am Tuesday the stage was 6.5 feet.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 8.0 feet by Wednesday morning.The river
will fall below flood stage by late Thursday morning.
* Impact... at 8.0 feet... park areas are inundated near Salt Creek.

* From this afternoon to Thursday morning.
* At 1045 am Tuesday the stage was 13.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 15.5 feet by Wednesday morning.The river
will fall below flood stage by Thursday morning.
* Impact... at 15.5 feet... water reaches some backyards along Big Bend
drive.

the Flood Warning continues for
the Thorn creek at Thornton.
* Until late Thursday night.
* At 830 am Tuesday the stage was 12.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 15.5 feet by
Wednesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Thursday
evening.
* Impact... at 14.5 feet... flooding begins of low lying areas adjacent
to creek.

Areal Flood Watch, Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:27 PM EST Feb. 20, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Illinois and Indiana, including the following
areas, in Illinois, Cook, dupage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois,
Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Livingston, and will. In Indiana,
Benton, Jasper, Lake in, Newton, and Porter.

* Through late tonight

* showers, with some thunderstorms possible in portions of east
central Illinois and Northwest Indiana, will result in
additional rainfall amounts of up to one to two inches. The
highest additional rainfall amounts will primarily southeast of
Interstate 57. This is on top of what has already fallen.

* The ground remains frozen, therefore additional rain will
result in rapid runoff. Rises on area rivers and streams will
likely continue that will result in additional flooding.
Flooding of low lying areas and on roadways near flood prone
areas will also continue to be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* From this evening to late Thursday night.
* At 1000 am Tuesday the stage was 10.8 feet.
* Action stage is 13.0 feet.

* Forecast... the river will rise to near 14.8 feet by Wednesday
afternoon.
