Flood Warning
Issued: 5:17 AM EST Feb. 23, 2018 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Ohio River at Markland dam
* until further notice.
* At 5 am the stage was 51.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 51 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* The river will continue rising to near 57.5 feet by early Monday
afternoon. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* At stages near 57.0 feet, lowland flooding worsens with creeks and
streams emptying into the Ohio River experiencing backwater flooding.
Counties affected include Gallatin and Carroll counties in Kentucky
and Switzerland County Indiana. Several roads along the river become
flooded in areas.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, including the
following areas, in Indiana, Dearborn, Fayette in, Franklin
in, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland, Union in, and Wayne. In
Kentucky, Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant,
Kenton, Lewis, Mason, Owen, Pendleton, and Robertson. In Ohio,
Adams, Brown, Butler, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Fairfield,
Fayette OH, Franklin OH, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Hocking,
Licking, Madison, Montgomery, Pickaway, Pike, Preble, Ross,
Scioto, and Warren.

* Through Sunday morning

* multiple rounds of heavy rainfall will move across the region
between today and early Sunday morning. Total rainfall amounts
through the period are expected to be in the 3 to 5 inch range.

* Excessive rainfall will cause local rivers, creeks, and
streams to rise. Those near streams and rivers should be
especially cautious as streams and rivers can rise quickly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

People in the watch area, especially those living in areas prone
to flooding, should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Monitor the latest forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings.

Carroll... Boone... western Grant... Owen and Gallatin counties remains
in effect until 1000 am EST...

At 849 am EST, radar indicated that while rain had become light and
scattered over the area, another area of moderate to locally heavy
rain was moving back in from the southwest. This rain will
overspread the advisory area, and could cause more runoff issues and
minor flooding.

Minor flooding of low-lying and poorly drained streets, highways and
underpasses will occur. In addition, farmland near creeks, streams
and drainage ditches will experience minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience minor flooding include...
Batesville, Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Carrollton, Aurora, Walton,
Rising Sun, Hidden Valley, Burlington, Oakbrook, Union, Versailles,
Milan, Vevay, Osgood, Warsaw, Dillsboro, Owenton, Shawnee and Moores
Hill.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
