Areal Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas
for...
northwestern Polk County in northwestern Minnesota...
east central Grand Forks County in northeastern North Dakota...

* until 330 PM CDT.

* At 1252 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported continuing street
flooding in the vicinity of the Columbia mall in Grand Forks.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor street
flooding in urban land use areas. Over two inches of rain have
already fallen. Therefore the flood advisory has been extended
through 330 PM CDT.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage
areas and low lying spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

The rainfall record for June 28 2017 has been broken for the
National Weather Service office in Grand Forks and the Grand Forks
International Airport.

For the NWS office, the previous record was 1.81 inches set in
1984. As of 1 PM CDT, our office has received 3.29 inches.

For the Grand Forks Airport, the previous record was 1.04 inches
set in 1982. As of 1 PM CDT, the Airport has received 3.19
inches.

An official record report will be sent once precipitation has
ended for the day.

Corrected for year of previous record, 1894 at Grand Forks NWS.
