... Lake effect Snow Advisory remains in effect until 7 am EST
Saturday...

* locations... southern Cayuga... Onondaga... Madison... Cortland...
Chenango and Otsego counties.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches, with much of
the snowfall occurring Friday and Friday night. The higher
terrain in southern Onondaga and southern Madison counties will
see the most snowfall.

* Timing... more intense snow showers are expected to begin later
tonight with the more persistent and heavier lake effect snow
bands developing in the region during the day Friday. Intense
snow should taper off on Saturday.

* Impacts... the heavy snow will create snow covered roads and
produce scattered power outages.

* Winds... northwest 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Temperatures... in the lower 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake effect Snow Advisory Means Lake-effect snow is forecast
that will make travel difficult in some areas. Lake-effect snow
showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be
intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas. Use
caution when traveling.

... Dangerous snow squall shifting across the area including the New
York thruway corridor through 130 am EST...

* at 1202 am EST... a dangerous snow squall was in extreme northern
Onondaga County and northern to central Oneida County, shifting
southeast. It will move across the New York thruway corridor
including the greater Syracuse and Utica Metro areas.

* A quick couple inches of snow are likely within this band, and
visibility will drop to less than a quarter of a mile in this snow
squall.

Locations impacted include...
Onondaga, Syracuse, Utica, Clay, Rome, Cicero, De Witt, Lysander,
Sullivan and Van Buren.

Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this dangerous
snow squall. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads
are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until the
squall passes your location.

Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be
prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra
time when traveling.
