Daily Stuff 4-17-12

Hi, folks!

It’s not raining, but very dim and green. The alder has developed a lot of leaves even since yesterday.

…and things go sideways. Tempus ended up being the person at the shop yesterday, putting all of his plans aside. Just after the newsletter went out the phone rang and, “Anja, I need you!” was what I heard. Fawkes’ brother died suddenly and unexpectedly and was found by a neighbor early in the morning. Fawkes got a phone call, called me and within minutes I was heading up there.

It was a lovely day for a drive. I watch birds on the ocean and in the rivers and lakes, I watched plants leafing and blooming. Fawkes and I got to talk, but… it was for a sad reason.

We cancelled class last night because of the uncertain timing and I came home very tired and sore, since that was about 5 ½ hours of driving and we have the same to do today.

The shop is closed Tuesday/Wednesday. Spring hours, 11am-6pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,

Space Weather News for April 16, 2012 - http://spaceweather.com
SPECTACULAR EXPLOSION: On April 16th around 17:45 UT, magnetic fields curling over the sun's northeastern limb rose up and erupted, producing one of the most visually-spectacular explosions in years. The event, which also produced an M1.7-class solar flare and a coronal mass ejection, was not Earth-directed. Nevertheless, it confirms suspicions that a significant active region is rotating onto the Earth-side of the sun. Visit http://spaceweather.com for movies and updates.

Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12 - The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun's daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses - learned women and teachers - respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Magick – Beltane
Beltaine Bread - http://www.chroniclesofavalon.com/beltane2003print .html
Popular in Cornwall and Wales. A rich, sweet, light colored bread, with red flecks of saffron; the stamens of crocus flowers. Saffron is strongly associated with sex and fertility; red the color of passion and lust. Great for handfasting too.
2 cups warm milk
2 pkgs. yeast
2/3 cup honey
5-6 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1/4 cup butter
2 pkgs. (1/2 tsp.) saffron

1. Proof yeast in warm milk.
2. Mix dry ingredients, cut in butter with pastry knife.
3. Mix in yeast starter and eggs, knead and let rise until doubled.
4. Punch down and divide into two buttered pans.
5. Let rise, preheat oven to 350o.
6. Bake for 40-50 minutes.

Barley Bread Cakes
6 Tablespoons Sesame Oil
2 Tablespoons Water
1 Cup Barley Flour

1. Mix sesame oil, water and salt with barley flour until dough is pliable though still somewhat oily.
2. Roll out dough and cut circular disc shapes with a glass and place on a greased cookie sheet.
3. Bake in an oven preheated to 400 degrees F until browned lightly.

Beltaine Oatcakes
http://crystalforest3.homestead.com/beltane.html - author unknown
Oatcakes are part of the Beltaine ceremony. Their roundness is symbolic of the life-giving sun whose return is marked by this festive sabbat. During Beltaine a huge bonfire is kept going all night long. Pieces of the cake are thrown into the fire as an offering to the protective deities.
Participate in this ancient custom by casting the oatcakes into an outside bonfire or even your fireplace. Begin by blessing these cakes. Say a prayer of gratitude, giving thanks to the Goddess and God for their abundance. Pass around the cake in a clockwise direction. Invite each of your guests to take a piece of the cake.

We are each a part of the joyous circle of love.
As we cast the bread into the fire,
we fuse together into the One Being,
That always was and always will be.
Recommend to your guests that they remember the joy in their hearts as they experience the gaiety of the season.

2 Tablespoons vegetable shortening
1/3 cup (80 Milliliters) boiling water
3 cups (680 grams) Medium rolled Oats
1 Teaspoon Minced fresh sage
1/4 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt.
1. Preheat the oven to 350*F (175*C).
2. In a small pan, heat the shortening and water, until the shortening has melted.
3. Remove from heat and let cool.
4. Mix the oats, sage, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl.
5. Mix the cooled liquid and the oat mixture, adding water, if necessary, to maintain a dough-like consistency.
6. Pat the dough into a circle, about 8 inches (20 Centimeters) in diameter.
7. Place on an un-greased baking sheet.
8. Bake for about 40 minutes.
9. Cut into 8 wedges, then leave to cool on a wire rack.

Energy list
4/16/12 – For someone who has found a dream job and wants some extra oomph to help him get it.
4/13/12 – “I am still very sick and have been for a month now - really need help kicking this on the spiritual plane - depression makes you sick and I am having a hard time climbing out of this hole. I now have bronchitis as well as the ongoing infection - see Dr again on Monday - This is probably the only request for help/healing I have ever made - but I just can't seem to kick this on my own. Whatever you think will help - I feel like I am dying a very slow and painful death.”
4/8/12 – For an older father with various health issues that gave us all a scare a while back. He’s much better, but still needs help to get back to health.
4/7/12 - 9-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumor. Starting radiation. Family and friends asking help for him and for the children that know him. Update 4/7 He’s doing pretty well and back in school despite the treatments.
3/28/12 – For a man who is terrified he’s going to lose his small daughter to her mother’s new boyfriend. The guy seems to be intent on leaving with her, even if he has no legal right.
3/19/12 – For a high-schooler, crazy for basketball and volleyball, who went down with a concussion early in the season. They’re telling her none of her favorite sports for a year, minimum, we’re asking for healing and the strength to deal with not being able to do what she loves for the moment.

Silliness – CF: Gym Application

My friend sat down with a new client at her gym to review her application. For the question "To what do you attribute your fitness issues?" the woman wrote, "Horrendous eating habits."

"What makes you answer that?" my friend asked.

The woman replied, "I can't spell atrocious."
