Hi, folks!

Blessed Beltane!

Here’s a link to Pip Wilson’s Almanac page for May 1. http://www.wilsonsalmanac.com/may1.html You need to scroll down quite a ways, but there’s a ton of wonderful info.

One that I find interesting is that this month got called, “thrimilce” by the Anglo-Saxons because cows could be milked three times in one day.

I woke to brilliant sunshine when I first got up, but I’m not sure what happened to that since it’s pouring, now.

I’m still sick. “Nuff said on that….

I got some work done ahead on newsletter files. What I do is set up text files with each of the things, (quotes, magick, jokes) and then pick from those each day. It makes it a little more random than picking from a file and makes sure I don’t repeat too often. What I’ve been working on in the last few days is the quotes file.

I have a new album up here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.20672153 35697.57630.1704231146&type=3&l=492074255f of the shop rock tumblers. I’ll be adding to it as we go along, pictures of measuring grit and choosing stones….

I have pictures to add to this album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.19159740 34759.54263.1704231146&type=3&l=ae4227bcc8 as well. That’s next after getting the newsletter out.

After that I’m going to try to get some of the spring flower fabrics put together and see if I have enough brains to finish some of the ones in the Pagan Collection.

…and the sun is out and the temp went up by 10 degrees in just about an ½ hour. Wow….

The shop is closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

The Moon is Waxing Gibbous. Waxing Gibbous Moon - From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Full Moon Phase begins at 8:35am on Friday and the Tide Change is at 8:35pm on Saturday.

The Moon forms the bottom of a big triangle with Mars to its upper right and Denebola, the tail star of Leo, to its upper left.
This is the time of year when the Gemini twins stand upright in the west as darkness arrives. Their head stars, Pollux and Castor, are nearly horizontal (depending on your latitude). Lower left of them shines Procyon. Farther lower right of them is Capella. Stealing the show lower down this year is brilliant Venus.
Jupiter (magnitude –2.0) is disappearing deep into the sunset.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12
Goddess Month of Maia runs from 4/18 - 5/15
Runic half-month of Lagu, 4/29-5/13 Representing the flowing and mutable forces of water, Lagu symbolizes life, growth and waxing power of this time of year.

Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12 - The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun's daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses - learned women and teachers - respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Putting myself in a tax crunch
I do it every year, put it off and panick
When what I need is right here somewhere
If I'd stop panicking enough to look

Maybe I will step into a portal
And then step right back out
With a cute, hunky, helpful accountant
That will find everything for me

Then we can unwind in the bedroom
And I will show him my new lightswitch
That has a goddess and a wolf on it
And he won't call me a dingbat like my ex

And he won't mind doing my housework
Or carrying boxes to the storage room
Or that my house is decorated in goddess
With a god thrown in here and there

And he is also great in bed
I know it sounds too good to be true
But it's my freaking fantasy,
And it can be whatever I want! - © Copyright 4/13/08, Beth Clare Johnson, (Mystic Raven)

Magick – Beltane
Tender Dandelion Salad - Recipe
Gathering our own salad is such a lovely way of connecting to the natural world. Dandelion greens - available in your own organic back yard or in the supermarket - are bursting with valuable carotenoids and vitamins, a true spring tonic that will enliven and nourish you and your family.

We include a great spring dressing recipe, too: add a little zip to all your salads!

3 cups dandelion leaves
2 thin slices red onion, separated into rings

1. On a sunny day, grab a basket and venture out on a foraging expedition. Be sure to choose dandelions leaves from areas that have never been sprayed, and are at least six feet from roadways, to avoid heavy metal contamination.
2. When you have about 3 cups of young, tender leaves, bring them indoors and wash them gently.
3. Serve, chilled if you like and topped with onion, along with the following dressing:

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons flaxseed oil
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon anise seed (optional)
2 teaspoons fresh peppermint, chopped
2 teaspoons tamari
2 ½ teaspoons honey mustard or miso

1. Combine all ingredients and whisk thoroughly to blend.

BRIGHTON Beach Couscous - serves 6 to 8 - http://crystalforest3.homestead.com/beltane.html
1 tsp Sesame oil
2 medium sized onions
3 cloves garlic
20 g Brighton Beach Sewered Seaweed (aka Dried Arame)
3/4 lb Mushrooms
2 medium sized carrots
3 tsp Vecon or similar vegetable stock
2 tsp Mirin
1 tsp Black Pepper
2 tsp Sea Salt
750 g Couscous
Lots of Water

1. Chop the onions and mince the garlic and fry in the sesame oil.
2. Soak the arame for about 15 minutes in boiling hot water and then add to the onion and garlic *without* the water used for soaking.
3. Add the finely chopped mushrooms and the grated carrots.
4. Mix the stock in some boiling hot water and add to the dish.
5. At the same time add the leftover water from soaking the arame.
6. Add the mirin and salt and pepper to taste.
7. It is probably best to have it slightly on the salty side as the saltiness will disappear when the couscous is added.
8. Simmer the mixture covered for about 20 minutes.
9. In a large mixing bowl add the couscous and the mixture together and any extra water required to cover.
10. Leave for five minutes.
11. Grease a large baking tray and line with baking parchment.
12. Add the mixture to the baking tray and place in the oven covered with foil.
13. Bake for about twenty minutes.
14. Remove the foil and if the bake is still too wet continue for another five to ten minutes.
15. The top should be slightly browned, grill if necessary.

We were originally going to add sesame seeds to this but forgot to as we were making it. Sesame seeds might be a good idea and would be especially useful if you wanted a dish without any added salt. You can also use a dried seaweed blend instead of salt.

4/13/12 – “I am still very sick and have been for a month now - really need help kicking this on the spiritual plane - depression makes you sick and I am having a hard time climbing out of this hole. I now have bronchitis as well as the ongoing infection - see Dr again on Monday - This is probably the only request for help/healing I have ever made - but I just can't seem to kick this on my own. Whatever you think will help - I feel like I am dying a very slow and painful death.”

Silliness – GCF: Audio Book

After an enthusiastic recommendation from my wife, I began listening to the audio-book version of a novel.

"I love it, but his writing style is so disjointed," I complained. "He refers to characters I don't know and introduces them a half hour later."

My wife was as confused as I was, but I soldiered on, disoriented by the jumpy story line. It wasn't until the end of the book that my dilemma was explained: I had my iPod set on "Shuffle."
