Hi, folks!

The sun is shining again. It’s almost too bright to look out of the window. Tempus lined up some dead mac ‘n cheese along the railing and even the little birds are getting into it. The crows haven’t found it, yet. That’s going to be quite a squawking contest once they do.

Yesterday I discovered that the rhododendrons are starting to bloom in the backyard. I’m planning to take some time today to go look at them and probably take pictures. The woodruff and the rugosas are starting to bloom, as well.

Yesterday’s classes & workshops went well, even though Tempus was stressed right to the max over logistics. Carl took the 101 class time. Brea was in for her class and then Tempus ran a movie for the Job Corps bunch. After that he took them back to the Center, having to close the shop long enough to do that. He got home around 9pm, because he also had to stop at the grocery store. At least I was well enough to cook him dinner, finally.

I worked on the computer in the morning, mostly still sorting files, but I did a little writing and worked doing product editing on the new Café Press stuff. They’ve added a lot of new products in this spring: shower curtains, duvet covers and pillow cases, to name a few, which I haven’t added to the older products lines, so that’s part of what I was doing.

I finally got outside at mid-afternoon with my clippers and went down into the park doing some judicious trimming of trees that are going to get lopped off when the chopper truck comes through. After that I sat on the north steps, trimming the bits down and getting the needles off until I had an amount that would fit in my basket. They need a little work still, before they get set out to dry, but they’re almost there. I got the last of the radishes pulled and spent a fair amount of time rescuing plants that were drowning in weeds. After that I planted more radishes and some lettuce.

During the evening I went back to the Spoonflower designs.

Today Tempus is going to be the one at the shop again. I still can’t talk much without setting off a coughing fit, so I’m going to stay home. I’m pretty much feeling ok, but my chest just burns inside when I cough. No, I *don’t* have pneumonia. I know what that feels like. I just need to get the coughing quieted down so that the internal chafing heals up and that means talking as little as possible. …which is *not* possible at the shop so I’m working here….

I’m planning on being in the garden again. I’ve asked Tempus to get the string trimmer out and to pull my rolly out of the car, so trimming and weeding are going to be what I concentrate on. In between I still have to finish the ornament boxes that I started working on right after Yule. That’s been hanging fire far too long. …and keep editing on Café Press. Check out the newest design!

The shop opens at 11am. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

The Moon is Full, but waning. Full Moon Magick: From fourteen to seventeen-and-a-half days after the new moon. “And better it be when the moon is full!”! Prime time for rituals for prophecy, for spells to come to fruition, infusing health and wholeness, etc. A good time for invoking deity. The Full Phase ends at 8:35am on Monday. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.

The waning gibbous Moon is up in the southeast by around 11 p.m., depending on where you live. Look about a fist-width to the Moon's right for fiery Antares. Around and upper right of Antares are other stars of Scorpius.
You can see Venus through the clear blue sky of day if your eye lands right on it. Look for it 35° (three or four fist-widths at arm's length) to the celestial east of the Sun. The best time to examine Venus in a telescope is late afternoon or around sundown. It's now a crescent about 42 arcseconds tall and 20% sunlit, waning and enlarging daily. Venus will transit the face of the Sun on June 5–6 (on the afternoon of the 5th for North America); see our article in the June Sky & Telescope, page 50, or online. This is the last transit of Venus until 2117.

Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12 - The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun's daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses - learned women and teachers - respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Affirmation/Thought for the Day – Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Mother Teresa, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.

Journal Prompt – Expository - Write about your first pet. Include a special memory about it. (If you have never had a pet, write about the kind of pet you would like to have one day.)

The secret lies in how we handle today, not yesterday or tomorrow. Today...that special block of time holding the key that locks out yesterday's nightmares and unlocks tomorrow's dreams. - Charles Swindoll, Clergyman and writer
The turn in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn. - Charmine Shing
The waves of the sea help me get back to me. - Jill Davis
Then your heart is a dark valley; if you do not soon work for the birth of the light, he will then ignite the fire of anger in you...and you will be unable with your animal birth to reach the gates of heaven. - Jacob Boehme, Aurora

Suffering is a treasure, for it conceals mercies;
The almond becomes fresh when you peel off the rind.
O my brother, staying in a cold dark place
And bearing patiently the grief, weakness, and pain
Is the Source of Life and the cup of Abandon!
The heights are found only in the depths of abasement;
Spring is hidden in autumn, and autumn pregnant with spring.
Flee neither; be the friend of Grief, accept desolation,
Hunt for the life that springs from the death of yourself. - Jalal-ud-Din Rumi (Translated by Andrew Harvey from A Year of Rumi)

Magick – THE BROOM - According To Barbara Walker
The broom has been associated with female magic and the social contributions of the wise woman ever since ancient Rome, where sacred midwives used special broomsticks to sweep the threshold of the house after childbirth to repel negative influences from mothers and their babies.
The broom was also associated with the ceremony of marriage as conducted by priestesses. Among Gypsies, whose marriages continued to be performed by wise women, jumping over the broomstick was an essential part of the rite.
(The Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects Barbara G. Walker Harper and Row, San Francisco, 1988)
For us today, the new broom ritual is an invitation to return to beginners mind where the world is once again fresh and filled with wonder.
Those of us of European heritage may have had Grandmothers who shared the New Broom ritual with us. For some of us, particularly from the Scandinavian countries, the New Broom ritual was a way of ritualizing the New Year.
On New Year's Eve, our Grandmothers swept the house with vigor and intention. They swept each room, clearing it of any negative energies or memories that had accumulated there during the past year. All of the disharmony and emotional clutter was swept over the threshold and out into the winter wind to be blown to the far corners of the earth.
But just in case, the old broom was left outside by the door to discourage old negative energies from returning.
The new broom was blessed with hopes and intentions for the new year-for health and happiness and prosperity and meaning and hope and generosity, and all those things that we bless one another with as we gather in the Wisdom Circle. Then the new broom was used to sweep in the positive energies and hopes and dreams and prayers for the new year.

You are invited to take this ritual of the new broom home with you and to give brooms for weddings and new births and housewarmings and new years.
Give a broom to someone you wish to mend a relationship with; a mother or father, daughter, son, or an estranged friend. ~Unknown - )0(

4/16/12 – For someone who has found a dream job and wants some extra oomph to help him get it.
4/13/12 – “I am still very sick and have been for a month now - really need help kicking this on the spiritual plane - depression makes you sick and I am having a hard time climbing out of this hole. I now have bronchitis as well as the ongoing infection - see Dr again on Monday - This is probably the only request for help/healing I have ever made - but I just can't seem to kick this on my own. Whatever you think will help - I feel like I am dying a very slow and painful death.”
4/8/12 – For an older father with various health issues that gave us all a scare a while back. He’s much better, but still needs help to get back to health.
4/7/12 - 9-year-old boy with an inoperable brain tumor. Starting radiation. Family and friends asking help for him and for the children that know him. Update 4/7 He’s doing pretty well and back in school despite the treatments.

Silliness – Q: What happened when a lawyer sued after he fell and tore his clothes when he slipped on a banana skin? A: He lost the suit on appeal.
