Overcast, 20-25KPH southerly, snowing last night, this morning roads wet, most of the new snow gone, temp now -4C, temps to remain cool. Forecast has all weather conditions over next few days, snow, rain and the temp all over the place.
Arena crowd realizing March is the final month of operation, withdrawal setting in, and a plan to learn if enough guaranteed ice time rental can be identified to run into April, interesting cultural additon to the community.
Emily overnight babysitting gig started 0645 this morning. A welcome addition to her paycheque with March Break next week. A planned trip to Quispam in the mix requires cash in case a 'deal' can be found at the mall.

By: GRANDMANAN, 12:08 PM GMT on February 26, 2012
Clear sky this morning, still cool -3C, high winds giving a much cooler temp outside. High winds in the forecast till late this afternoon.
Ferry made first run at noon yesterday, White Head Ferry never run till late in the afternoon. Travellng back and forth not a problem, getting them tied up in the high winds a bit of a challenge.
Emily will have to keep an eye on the ferry schedule to insure she has a trip home this afternoon.

Girls basketball team represented themselves very well with a Provincial Championship last evening. Haven't learned the full detaials, just a job well done. The ferry remained for an extro 45 minutes to enable folks to attend the game and make the trip home last night.
Little conversation from Quispam, we seem to be off the radar when Em is on the mainland.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 7:02 PM GMT on February 24, 2012
Beginning to cloud over, a messy weekend in the offing, wind and 'wintry mix in the forecast. Currently beginning to cloud over, temp a nice 4C.
Mid-afternoon, spent the night in St. Andrews on Village business. Stayed at the Algonquin, no wireless in the room. Hard to imagine a world class hotel with only hard wiring for internet connection, and me with no 'smart phone'.
Emily off to Quispam for the weekend, has arrived ahead of the storm, by her return on Sunday supposed to be clear and mild.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:52 AM GMT on February 23, 2012
A sliver of red sky over Ross Island peeking out from under the cloud cover. Mainly overcast, a slight southerly draft, temp a pleasant 5C will rise a bit during the day. Wintry mix in the forecast, would think for our part of the world this means rain.
The arena being kept busy, more visiting hockey teams this weekend the PeeWee organized team heading into playoffs. The team lost both games this past weekend, thier first losses of the season. Playoffs to start soon, with all teams getting very close in the standings. Basketball tomorrow, a request to have the ferry hold up for an hour on the last trip is being considered by the decision makers to allow more folks to attend.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:48 AM GMT on February 22, 2012
Southern influence evident this morning, a slight SE draft, bringing rain, 4C temps, very dreary looking across the brown lawn towards Ross Island, far from a KODAK MOMENT. Similar weather conditions with higher winds in the forecast.
Local news quiet, the annual pilgrimage to southern climes beginning to gain momentum. The girls basketball competing this weekend for Provincial Title seem to dominate coffee conversation. Fishing news quiet.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:44 AM GMT on February 22, 2012
Southerly influence evident this morning, a slight draft from SE, showers, temp 4C. Similar weather pattern for next couple of days with higher winds to be expected. Looking out over the harbour presents far from a KODAK MOMENT, very brown and dreary.
Local suttlebutt, as far as I know at least, quiet. The girls basketball competing for Provincial Title in St. John this weekend. A mass exodous of families anticipated. The annual pilgrimage to southern climes beginning to gain momentum.

By: GRANDMANAN, 11:44 AM GMT on February 21, 2012
Bright sun, a slight draft from NW, remaining cool at -8C. Temp to rise as day moves along, chance of rain/snow overnight, rain and warmer temps tomorrow and next few days remains warmer, with clear skies.
Dr.'s visit went well, Otis well into 91st years enjoys blood pressure of a teenager. His memory more than a little suspect, however his health probably best described as remarkable for his age.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 10:04 AM GMT on February 20, 2012
Clear, a slight draft from north, a cool -7C, not expected to get above the freezing mark today or tomorrow, but possibly rain for Wed.
A quick trip to Dr. for Donna's dad this morning, appointment in Blacks Harbour, but still will take the day to accomplish. Otis well into 91st year, and looking forward to the little diversion these appointments bring.
Emily returned dress in hand, has been on a couple of times for viewing, does look impressive.

Emily has a good day to travel, limited contact when she is on the mainland. She did manage to pick up the dress and all is well in Quispam.
Girls high school basketball off to Provincials next week, boys lost out. Hockey fever also taking over, the Pee Wee team in first place, but lost thier first game yesterday. Playoffs start soon, a whole new weekend sports experience underway with the hockey teams visiting, old timers coming on regular basis also.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 12:20 PM GMT on February 18, 2012
A little overcast, calm, a slight draft from the south, temp to rise into plus side mid single digits. Sun and similar weather conditons for the next day or so.
Emily off to Quispam for a visit with whatshisname, and pick up the 'dress'. A short visit back tomorrow afternoon.
If I can get all the gear in place will attempt to get into the bush for a load of wood, looking more and more will have to purchase for next year.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 10:15 AM GMT on February 17, 2012
A fine start to the day, calm, temp already on the plus side, temp to rise well into plus temps, barely going below the freezing mark overnight, good weather for the weekend.
Off for a meeting St. Andrews by the sea this morning, time to start preparations for the upcoming tourist season.
Emily on the island till tomorrow then whats is name has an event she must attend sometime tomorrow. Also her dress is ready for pickup, can't imagine that weather good bad or indifferent would keep her from making the trip tomorrow.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:47 AM GMT on February 16, 2012
Another KODAK MOMENT sunrise well underway, bright red sun, high water, total calm looking out over the harbour, a modest -2C. Forecast for temps to be on plus side well into this evening, wintry mix warnings being held in abeyance for the moment.
Fishery news remains static, tides dropping back, might get a better picture on the lobster catch, price reported to remain in $5.50 range.
WEDNSESDAY, FEBRUARY 15/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:48 AM GMT on February 15, 2012
Heavy overcast, calm, temp -3C,remaining overcast and temp to rise near mid single digits as the day moves along. Similar conditions for next day or so, then a 'wintry mix' and plus temps and better weather in the weather forecast.
Emily reaches the grand old age of EIGHTEEN at 1315HRS today. Have been advised I am hosting a gathering at local restaurant, cake to follow at home. Attempting to get all hands together quite a feat, some working, and of course hockey night must not be imposed upon.
No fishery news to report, lobster fishing down to once a week, no word on the catch. Water temp now getting down to the 3C area many weeks later than in the past.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:47 AM GMT on February 14, 2012
A great sunrise this morning, brilliant red orb rising from behind Ross Island. Cold @ 1-13C, total calm, as a consequence can see the tide running in the harbour. Temp to moderate by late this afternoon to be on the plus side.
Rob regressing when comes to writing his test for Drivers Permit, really crashed yesterday. Not much conversation or explanation offered for the results. He might have to take the contents of the book a bit more serious.
The arena continues to be a centre of the community, lots of interest and all ages participating in skating and hockey. The 10-14 yr. old group first in the thier Division, competing with teams on the mainland. Great parental support both locally and away games.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:45 AM GMT on February 13, 2012
Winter like conditions remain the norm for the next day or so, however indictions moderation is on the way. Overcast, a cold -14C being pushed by a breeze 15-20KPH from WSW making it much colder. The southerly flow to take over and warmer temps the trend by tomorrow.
Rob taking THIRD written Drivers Exam this morning. He has had quite a plate of humble pie after being relentless when Emily had to take it TWICE, his efforts not discussed too much, however she gives him a subtle shot everyonce and awhile.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 12:13 PM GMT on February 12, 2012
Winter has arrived with a vengence, albiet a grand morning to be looking outside. Bright sun, a hint of sea smoke in the harbour, brisk NW breeze making the -12C seem like -20C, snow blowing about seaonal at best. Temp to remain low for next few days, not too much snow in the yard, enough wind to move it off next door.
Emily has a babysitting assignment for the day and into the evening, if the parents are still travelling, believe one of the kids has a hockey game. Travel would be poor anywhere in the province due to the snow and wind.
Will have a morning doing some shoveling I suspect, not enough in the yard to get out the snowplow, but certainly enough on the steps and deck to be moved.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 12:31 PM GMT on February 11, 2012
Winter Advisory in effect for our area, currently heavy overcast, hint of rain, total calm, temp 2C. Calling for lots of snow and wind, however temps not dropping till late this afternoon, suspect we may have a bit of rain prior to the snow. Radar indicates lots of rain near the mouth of the Bay will certainly be overhead by this afternoon.
Prom Dress experience painless, and a bit humbling. Decision made quickly, took a teenage girl in sweats and a txting machine to the Big Smoke, I sat in the car waiting. Summonsed so "Pa could see", met a mature young woman in a fancy dress. The deal was done to the degree I didn't ask the price or care for that matter, certainly wasn't expecting that outcome, one I am fortunate to have participated in.
Rob had his Report Card when we returned, he passed everything, even got an attaboy for a Math project. He has obtained max credits to this time, however is now obvious he is more than capable so can only imagine he will be expected to produce this next semester. A good day.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 10:12 AM GMT on February 10, 2012
Clear, cool, calm, temp to rise well into plus temps as the days moves along. Winter Advisory been issued for the weekend, calling for wind and snow. However temps suggest may very well be more of a rain event for this part of the world.
A good day to travel for the Prom Dress routine, have been advised to stay in the car. Not a position I had to be encouraged to take, anything for harmony for sure. This combined with another shopping list will make for a hectic trip to the Big Smoke.
No injuries aboard the fishing boat that caught fire, no doubt will be a write off, heat and fibreglass not a good combination.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:50 AM GMT on February 09, 2012
Heavy overcast, total calm, temp -2C, clearing and cool temps for the next few days with snow in the forecast for the weekend.
A boat caught fire yesterday around Ross Island, fortunate other boats nearby, no injuries. Arthur's father lost in the same area forty years ago, his body never found. Source of the fire not known as yet, able to tow the boat to the wharf where the Volunteer Fire Dept able to extinguish the flames with foam, deck hose just wouldn't get the job done.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 10:09 AM GMT on February 08, 2012
Winter remains, clear, calm and cold @ -10C, temp to rise into low single digits by this afternoon. Remains similar weather conditions till the weekend.
Business on the mainland a couple of meetings in St. Andrews and Blacks Harbour. They are spread apart enough might be able to make a side trip for a CANDAIN TIRE fix, folks across the line akin to visiting TRUE VALUE I suppose.
Wind farm possiblilty once again visiting the island, each time, believe this will be the fourth, a different approach by the promototor. Still very preliminary, will wait and see what transpires.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:44 AM GMT on February 07, 2012
A grand looking morning across the harbour this morning, calm, a brillaint red sun still hiding behind the trees, temp already on the plus side at 2C. Temps to remain on the plus side then taking a dip on the negative side overnight.
Rob had his White Head hockey teamate overnight, he has been here a couple of nights a week since late fall, missed a few weeks over Xmas. He couldn't participate otherwise, the last trip to Whitehead is at 7:30PM.
Lobster price still remains over $5/lb, level catch not high, one fellow averaging a little over a pound per trap. A couple of times a week makes for a days pay.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:46 AM GMT on February 06, 2012
Moderating trend in commence with the influence of a southerly breeze 20-25KPH, temp a modest -1C. Temp to rise into low plus, remain overcast. A bit of snow overnight, amounting to no more than a 'skiff'.
SUPER BOWL now in the books, a typical tilt between the GIANTS and PATRIOTS, overall an entertaining event and a proper outcome for sure.
Emily enroute from Quispam, catch first trip out of Blacks Harbour. Have been advised dress trip on for Friday as the basketball MILL RATS playing in St. John this weekend, apparently a great chance to combine the two events.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 12:18 PM GMT on February 05, 2012
Cold weather persisits, clear, a slight northerly draft, temp -12C, not to change much during the day. Warming trend for the week, for the most part clear, with little hint of any precip.
Did manage to get in the woods, picked up one load left over from last year. The fourwheeler more than a little reluctant to get going, probably should start it up more than every few months. Ground and ice strong enough to travel just about wherever one needs to be.
Emily settled in Quispam, little communication once she is in that environment. Definatly has other interests when on the mainland, she appears to be having no problem making the transition when the time comes this fall.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 12:26 PM GMT on February 04, 2012
Clearing, sun up over Ross Island, a few flurries reluctant to give it up. Temp -5C, a slight draft from north, sunny and cool for the next couple of days.
Emily off to Quispam to check see what is going on in that location. Hopefully she can do a foray and locate a suitable prom dress, not that I ain't lloking forward to participating in that excercise.
Will gather up my wood harvesting tools, and a little ambition head into the bush - if my fourwheeler will kick over. Hasn't been going since fall, battery no doubt iffy.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:49 AM GMT on February 03, 2012
Winter temps in evidence this morning, -9C being pushed by 15KPH northerly giving a feel of -16C. Overcast, clearing for the weekend similar temps for the next few days.
Emily making her Super Bowl Weekend appearance in Quispam. She is not a football fan, must be some other draw for her to be away over the weekend.
Fishery news quiet, lobster price @$5.50 best has been for nearly a year, however lobster catch very low, difficult to take great advantage of the price increase.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:52 AM GMT on February 02, 2012
Seasonal type conditions looking across the harbour this morning, a slight draft from the norht, temp -5C, hint of snow flurries. Similar conditions for the next few days with sun in the forcast for the weekend, temps to remain in the minus area, but not to severe.
School to start up this morning, Emily looking forward to the wind down of this part of her scholastic endeavour, the other approaching it as another day at the office.
Arena going strong, very busy on any given day, team coming this weekend for a game. The local sports culture in a transition, also a basketball game of importance on the agenda folks will have a choice to make for thier sports fix.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1/12
By: GRANDMANAN, 11:49 AM GMT on February 01, 2012
February coming in with damp weather this morning, snowed overnight, temp now at the 0C level, turning to rain outside, slight southerly draft underway. Weather conditions to remain in this mode for the remainder of the day.
Will be a bit of an uproar as school has been cancelled due to weather condtions. Here the roads are clear, our rain will be either snow or freezing rain on the mainland, no doubt the basis for the call to cancel classes.
Fishing news remains quiet, a bit of scalloping, egging and traps being hauled once a week seems the order of the day.
