... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 145 am EDT for
central Mecklenburg County...

At 1140 PM EDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the warned area. Up to one
and a half inches of rain has fallen since 9 PM. Earlier this
morning the region around Center City Charlotte received 3 to 5
inches of rainfall. Stream gauges on little sugar... Little Hope
... Stewart... and McMullen creeks indicated steady rises since 10 PM.
These creeks are on the south side of Charlotte. Recent radar trends
indicate The Rounds of moderate rain showers will continue across
the warned area through 1 am... resulting in additional runoff into
streams and creeks.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Uptown Charlotte... central Charlotte... East Charlotte... southwest
Charlotte... northwest Charlotte... Freedom Park... Charlotte Douglas
Airport... The Plaza... Hidden Valley and Reedy Creek Park.

Flooding of low lying areas near McMullen creek will be possible...
especially along Addison drive and Lincrest place. Willhaven
drive... Randolph Road and Shasta Lane may also be affected. Flooding
of low lying areas near little sugar and Little Hope creeks is
possible... especially along Wedgewood drive and mockingbird Lane.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways... bridges... or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not Worth the risk. Please turn around... don't drown.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

When it is safe to do so... please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free... 1... 800... 2 6 7... 8 1 0 1... by
posting on our facebook Page... or via twitter using hashtag nwsgsp.
