Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 8:13 PM EDT Apr. 23, 2018 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk remains in effect until 6 am EDT Tuesday...
... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 1 am to 5 am EDT
Tuesday...

* location... Horry and Georgetown County beaches.

* Coastal flooding... beaches, marshes and tidal creeks. High water
run-up is expected to near the dunes.

* Rip current risk... high.

* Surf height... 3 to 5 feet at Horry and Georgetown County beaches.

* Timing and tides... strong rip currents could occur at any time,
but will be especially prominent several hours either side of low
tide, which will be around 9 PM tonight.

* Timing... water levels will be highest with the overnight high
tide which will occur around 3 am.

* Impacts... minor coastal flooding and strong onshore winds will
create saltwater flooding of low-lying areas near the beaches.

* Other hazards... strong and rough surf. Significant beach erosion
possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents. Life threatening rip currents
are likely in the surf zone.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will
combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

Wind Advisory
Issued: 8:18 PM EDT Apr. 23, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 am EDT Tuesday...

* winds... east to southeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* Timing... the strongest winds are expected late tonight.

* Impacts... strong gusty winds may topple some trees causing
isolated power outages, especially as heavy rainfall saturates
the ground. Driving in high profile vehicles may become
difficult, mostly on bridges and overpasses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
