* At 1256 PM CDT, over the past 24 hours 3 to 7 inches of rain fell
across the warned area. This has caused widespread water over
roads and highways causing closures as well as very swollen creeks
and streams. Many area rivers will rise to moderate to potentially
major flood stages. The water will recede slowly so many locations
may still see water on roads into the evening and night time hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sioux Falls, Yankton, Worthington, Spencer Iowa, Vermillion, Sioux
Center, Orange City, Sheldon, Spirit Lake, Luverne, Windom,
Pipestone, Jackson Minnesota, Canton, Sibley, Rock Rapids,
Hawarden, Slayton, Beresford and Parker.

Light to moderate rainfall will gradually decrease across the area
through the afternoon. By late afternoon much of the rain will have
dissipated.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

* At 11am Thursday the stage was 1205.33 feet.
* Flood stage is 1204.00 feet.
* Recent activity... the river rose above flood stage on Thursday June
21.
* At stages near 1204 feet... significant flooding of crop and pasture
land begins. Access to the north end of the big Sioux Recreation Area
on the west side of Brandon is limited.

* Until Sunday evening.
* At 11am Thursday the stage was 16.06 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16.00 feet.
* Recent activity... the river rose above flood stage on Thursday June
21.
* Forecast... the river will rise to 19.0 feet by Friday June 22.
* At stages near 19.0 feet... Rock Valley begins to experience flood
problems and sandbagging of storm sewers in the city begins.

* At 08am Thursday the stage was 8.93 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 10.00 feet.
* Forecast... the river will rise above flood stage on Thursday June 21,
and crest Thursday night around 11.2 feet.
* At stages near 12.0 feet... the Luverne City Park will be under 5 to
6 feet of water.

* At 09am Thursday the stage was 17.91 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 13.00 feet.
* Recent activity... the river rose above flood stage around 2 am on
Thursday June 21.
* Forecast... the river will rise to 19.4 feet by 7 PM Thursday.
* At stages near 19.0 feet... the highest banks on the right side of
the river will be overtopped.

effect until 945 PM CDT Thursday for western Lyon... rock...
Minnehaha... Lincoln... southeastern McCook and Turner counties...

At 1043 am CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
periods of light to briefly moderate rain expected across the warned
area. Water over roadways is still expected as well as rising
streams, creeks and rivers.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sioux Falls, Luverne, Canton, Rock Rapids, Parker, Lake Vermillion
state Recreation Area, Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea, Hartford, Lennox,
Crooks, Garretson, Wall Lake, Baltic, Worthing, Larchwood, Inwood,
Marion and Viborg.

Additional rainfall amounts of a half an inch or less are possible
in the warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 1015 PM CDT Thursday for
eastern Lyon... Osceola... Dickinson... northeastern Sioux... Clay...
O'Brien... eastern rock... Jackson and Nobles counties...

At 1041 am CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that light to mdoerate rainfall was occurring across the warned
area. Many streams, creeks and rivers are either out of their banks
or about to go out and many roads are experiencing water across them.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Worthington, Spencer in Clay County, Sheldon, Spirit Lake, Jackson in
Jackson County, Sibley, Milford, Lakefield, Hartley, Sanborn, Adrian,
Arnolds Park, Lake Park, George, Bergen, Primghar, Okoboji, Heron
Lake, Sutherland and Orleans.

Additional rainfall amounts of a half an inch or less are possible
in the warned area.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
