Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 3:12 PM CDT Jun. 22, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Saturday evening through Monday
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of south central South Dakota,
southwestern South Dakota, and the Black Hills of South
Dakota, including the following areas, in south central South
Dakota, Mellette, Todd, and Tripp. In southwestern South
Dakota, Bennett, Jackson, Oglala Lakota, the Custer County
plains, the Fall River County plains, the Hermosa foot hills,
the Rapid City area, and the southern foot hills. In the Black
Hills of South Dakota, the central Black Hills, the northern
Black Hills, and the southern Black Hills.

* From Saturday evening through Monday afternoon

* recent rainfall along with the potential for 1 to 2 inches of
additional rainfall poses a threat for flooding.

* Flooding that develops could wash out roads in low-lying areas,
as well as impact property along creeks, streams, and rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible along rivers and
creeks in the watch area, but is not imminent. If you are in the
watch area, take time to move livestock, equipment, and other
property from low lying areas before flooding occurs. Monitor
NOAA Weather Radio and local media for updated forecasts and be
ready to quickly move to higher ground if rising water levels are
observed or a warning is issued.
