Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 2:20 AM MDT May. 24, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch now in effect through Friday evening...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of central and southwest Montana, including Cascade,
Broadwater, Gallatin, and Madison counties.

* Through Friday evening.

* The threat for flooding on creeks and streams will continue at
least through week. Warm temperatures will increase snowmelt out
of the higher mountain elevations, causing these waterways to
keep running high, fast, and very cold.

* Some river gauge points have already exceeded flood stage, and
others may reach flood stage over the next few days, including,
but not limited to...

Missouri River near Toston.
Sun River near Simms and Vaughn.
Gallatin river near Logan and Gallatin Gateway.

* Rivers in northern Madison County are currently not forecast to
go above flood stage at this time, but there is the potential
that water may back up into them from higher rivers downstream
of them.

* Please use caution around swollen rivers and creeks, especially
as we move into the Holiday weekend.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
