Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 9:09 PM CDT Aug. 30, 2016 – National Weather Service

... The Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory remains in effect until
945 PM CDT for northern Garza... northern Lynn... southern Crosby and
southern Lubbock counties...

At 902 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated pockets of heavy rain due to
showers and embedded thunderstorms. The heaviest rain stretched from
south Lubbock to Southland to near Post. This heavy rain will cause
Urban and Small Stream flooding in the advisory area. Anywhere from
a half of an inch to over 2 inches have already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lubbock... Slaton... White River lake... Wolfforth... Ransom Canyon...
Woodrow... slide... Southland and New Home.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This
additional rain will make minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and
underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
