Watches & Warnings

Blowing Dust Advisory, Wind Advisory
Issued: 10:37 AM MDT Apr. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Blowing dust advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this
evening...
... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening...

* impacts... strong winds will result in areas of dense blowing
dust along Interstate-10 near San Simon and the Willcox Playa.
Blowing dust can restrict visibilities below a mile posing a
significant hazard to motorists. In general, winds this strong
can make driving difficult, especially for high profile
vehicles. In addition to roadway impacts, loose and unsecured
outdoor objects may be blown around.

* Timing... winds will increase by later this morning, with the
strongest winds during the afternoon hours.

* Winds... southwest to west winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts to
near 50 mph in the afternoon.

* Visibility... dense blowing dust near portions of I-10 east of
Willcox may reduce visibility to less than a half mile at
times. Otherwise, blowing dust will occasionally limit
visibility to less than a mile.

* For a detailed view of the hazard area... visit
weather.Gov/Tucson and click on the detailed hazards tab

* current air pollution levels are available from the Pima
County department of environmental quality website at
www.Pima.Gov/deq or by calling (520) 724-7446

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blowing dust advisory means that blowing dust will restrict
visibilities below one mile in some areas. Travelers are urged to
use caution. If you encounter localized dense blowing dust...
especially near plowed fields or construction sites... do not
drive into it if at all possible.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph or greater
are expected in the valleys... or 35 mph or greater above
5000 feet. Higher gusts are also likely. This could make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.

Fire Weather Warning, Fire Weather Watch
Issued: 10:40 AM MDT Apr. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 8 PM MST this evening
for gusty winds... low humidity and very high fire danger for fire
weather zones 151 and 152...
... Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Saturday afternoon
through Saturday evening for gusty winds... low humidity and very
high fire danger for fire weather zones 151 and 152...

* affected area... all of fire weather zones 151 and 152 for the
warning today. The southeast part of zone 151 and most of 152
for the Fire Weather Watch on Saturday.

* Timing... the red flag warning will be in effect from 10 am to
8 PM MST today. The watch will be in effect Saturday from
noon to 8 PM MST.

* Winds... strong southwest to west winds of 20 to 30 mph with
gusts to 45 mph will develop during the morning hours today
and last well into the evening. Another round of somewhat
lighter winds area forecast Saturday afternoon and evening.

* Relative humidity... minimum humidity levels today will range
from around 8 to 12 percent western areas to 14 to 21 percent
in eastern areas. For Saturday minimum humidity levels will
generally be 7 to 12 percent area wide.

* Impacts... any fires that develop or are ongoing will have the
potential to spread rapidly under the influence of very
strong winds.

* For a detailed view of the hazard area... visit
weather.Gov/Tucson and click on the detailed hazards tab.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or are expected to develop. A
combination of strong winds... low relative humidity... and dry
vegetation will create the potential for rapid and erratic fire
growth.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
red flag warnings.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of the Fire Weather Watch for portions of Southeast
Arizona.
