Watches & Warnings

Wind Advisory
Issued: 3:42 PM MDT Mar. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to 9 PM MDT
Friday...

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 PM MDT
Friday.

* Timing... strong winds of 25 to 35 mph will sporadically occur
after midnight and then by late morning become more sustained
and reach their peak by mid afternoon with wind gust of 50 mph
possible.

* Winds... winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph possible by
Friday afternoon.

* Impacts... the strong winds will create hazardous driving
conditions especially on north/south running roads and along the
highways west of Las Cruces. The strong winds could also lead
to some isolated power line and tree damage.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 1:58 PM MDT Mar. 30, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Friday for
strong winds and low relative humidities...

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a red flag
warning, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Friday. The
Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* Wind... 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

* Humidity... 5 to 13 percent.

* Highest threat... is located over The Lowlands east of the Rio
Grande. A cold front will move in from the west during the
afternoon and raise humidities west of the river.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
