Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 3:05 AM MDT Sep. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from noon MDT today through early Sunday
morning...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of eastern New Mexico, including
the following areas: Chaves County plains, Curry County, De Baca
County, eastern Lincoln County, eastern San Miguel County,
Guadalupe County, Harding County, Quay County, Roosevelt County,
south central mountains, southwest Chaves County and Union County.

* From noon MDT today through early Sunday morning.

* Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected through most of
the afternoon over eastern New Mexico today. Thunderstorms will be
capable of producing heavy downpours, with storms training over the
same area more than once, potentially totaling up to 2-3 inches.

* Heavy downpours will lead to ponding of water in low lying areas
and abrupt and excessive water runoff near steeper terrain.
Normally dry creeks, arroyos, low water crossings, and river beds
could turn to raging torrents during flash flooding episodes.
Road closures will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
