Issued: 4:28 PM GMT Jan. 17, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am chst Friday...

* for north facing reefs... large north swell is expected to bring
hazardous surf of 9 to 13 feet to the marianas this morning.
Surf is expected to remain near these levels through Wednesday
before beginning to subside. The surf on north facing reefs is
expected to remain above hazardous levels through Friday
morning.

* East facing reefs... as large north swell veers to northeast over
the next couple of days... surf will become hazardous over night
for east facing reefs.

* West facing reefs... for tonight and Wednesday for Guam and
Rota... north swell will spread over to the west facing coasts
producing hazardous surf of 8 to 10 feet. Surf will reduce below
hazardous levels late Wednesday on these reefs as the swell
veers further to the east.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Avoid venturing near reefs along exposed beaches... especially
those facing north... as rip currents will be life-threatening.

... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 6 am chst
Friday...

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 6 am chst Friday.

A building north swell is resulting in combined seas between
9 and 11 feet today. Seas could peak as high as 12 feet on
Wednesday before beginning to subside. Seas are expected to
remain above advisory levels through early Friday morning.

Northeast winds of 20 to 25 knots over Tinian and Saipan waters
are expected to spread southward as the day progresses. These
winds should reach Guam and Rota by Wednesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Inexperienced mariners... especially those operating smaller
vessels... should avoid sailing in these conditions.
