Issued: 4:38 AM MDT Mar. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning in effect from 1 PM CDT /noon MDT/ this
afternoon to 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ this evening...

The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 1 PM CDT /noon MDT/ this
afternoon to 10 PM CDT /9 PM MDT/ this evening.

* Timing... Thursday afternoon and evening.

* Winds... west 35 to 55 mph with gusts to around 75 mph.

* Impacts... winds will be particularly hazardous at higher
elevations where the strongest winds are likely to occur. Be
especially careful driving in these mountainous areas as these
winds could make driving difficult for motorists driving high
profile vehicles such as campers, vans and tractor trailers.
Airplanes flying over the Guadalupe Mountains may experience
severe turbulence.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

... Red flag warning remains in effect from noon CDT /11 am MDT/
today to 1 am CDT /midnight MDT/ Friday for relative humidity of
15% or less, 20 foot winds of 20 mph or more, and high to extreme
fire danger...

* humidity... 5 to 10%.

* Wind... above 6000 feet... southwest 20 to 30 mph increasing to 30
to 50 mph in the afternoon. Below 6000 feet... southwest 20 to
25 mph increasing to 25 to 45 mph in the afternoon.

* Fire danger... high to extreme.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not throw cigarettes onto the ground or out of a moving
vehicle. Do not drive through tall grass. Avoid activities that
may produce outdoor flames or Sparks. Accidental ignitions will
have the potential to grow rapidly into dangerous wind-driven
wildfires.
