829 PM EST Wed Feb 21 2018

The National Weather Service in Burlington has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
an ice jam accompanied by rain and snowmelt in...
west central LaMoille County in northwestern Vermont...
northeastern Chittenden County in northwestern Vermont...
south central Franklin County in northwestern Vermont...

* until 845 am EST Thursday

* at 822 PM EST, river gauges along the LaMoille river continued to
rise and show signs of ice jams. This includes the gauges at
Johnson, Jeffersonville, and East Georgia. River levels are
expected to continue to slowly rise overnight, which may result in
flooding. Ice is moving down the gihon river and this may also
result in flooding as it encounters the previous jam site from the
January flood.

* Ice jams are very unpredictable and can break up, move and jam
again very quickly. Water backing up behind the jam is the main
flood threat, and can flood areas under deep water with
surprising speed. Favored ice jam locations are where a river
bends or slows, at bridge abutments, or Near Islands, sand bars,
and other obstructions to river flow.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Johnson Village, Johnson, Jeffersonville Village, Cambridge,
Cambridge Village, Westford, Fairfax, Milton, Fletcher, Georgia,
Jeffersonville, East Georgia, East Johnson and Cambridge Junction.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

River levels may fluctuate rapidly due to ice with little or no
warning. Residents in low lying flood prone areas should remain alert
for possible flooding due to ice jams. Ice jam flooding can be very
localized and not affect all locations along the river as in a
typical river flood.
