Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 12:16 PM EDT Sep. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 1 am EDT
Thursday...
... High rip current risk remains in effect until 9 PM EDT this
evening...

* location... southern coastal areas of New Jersey and coastal
areas of Delaware.

* Coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding is expected once again
with high tide this evening.

* Timing... minor flooding in the back bays will linger into the
early afternoon. The next high tide on the New Jersey and
Delaware oceanfront occurs between 8 PM and 9 PM this evening.
High tide on the back bays occurs later than the high tide on
the oceanfront.

* Surge... 1.25 to 1.75 feet above the astronomical tide.

* Waves... breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet along the coast.

* Rip currents... there is a high risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents.

* Coastal flooding impacts... localized roadway and property
flooding is expected in low lying areas near the oceanfront
that are prone to tidal surge. Some roads may be closed due to
high water.

* Outlook... the potential for minor coastal flooding near the
times of high tide will continue into Thursday and perhaps
Friday. A moderate to high risk of rip currents will continue
into early next week.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some Road
closures. Usually... the most vulnerable roadways will flood.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.

please go to www.Weather.Gov/phi/tides

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
