Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 9:20 AM EDT Sep. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory in effect until 2 am EDT Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington DC has
issued a coastal flood advisory, which is in effect until 2 am
EDT Sunday.

* Locations... shoreline in the District of Columbia and
Arlington County and the city of Alexandria.

* Tidal departure... 1 to 1.5 feet above normal.

* Timing... around the time of high tide. High tide at the
Washington DC southwest Waterfront will be at 10:57 am today and
11:13 PM tonight. High tide at Alexandria will be at 11:15 am
today and 11:31 PM tonight.

* Impacts... shoreline inundation is expected along portions of
the seawall adjacent to Ohio drive and the Hains Point loop
Road. Water is expected to approach the curb near the
intersection of King Street and strand street in Alexandria.
Minor shoreline inundation is possible elsewhere.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

Forecast tides are referenced to mean lower low water (mllw) and
mean higher high water (mhhw) unless otherwise noted. Time of
high total tide is approximate to nearest hour. Total tide
combines the normal tide and departure from normal. Flood impact
is based on the total tide and waves where applicable.
