Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 4:15 PM EDT Sep. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 9 PM EDT this evening through
Thursday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Virginia and south
central Virginia... including the following areas... in central
Virginia... Amherst... Appomattox... Buckingham and Campbell. In
south central Virginia... Charlotte... Halifax and Pittsylvania.

* From 9 PM EDT this evening through Thursday afternoon

* several periods of showers and thunderstorms will repeatedly
cross through the Piedmont. Heavy rain is likely with up to 3
inches of rain by the end of the day on Thursday. Localized
heavier amounts are possible. This amount of rainfall may cause
flash flooding of small streams and creeks. Urban areas and
locations with poor drainage also have a high potential for
flooding.

* Streams and creeks may overflow their banks leading to flooded
and impassible roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember... turn around... don't drown!

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
