The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Harnett County in central North Carolina...
eastern Hoke County in central North Carolina...
Cumberland County in central North Carolina...
northwestern Sampson County in central North Carolina...

* until 1045 PM EDT Friday

* at 1000 PM EDT... County officials reported continued flooding
including high water on multiple roads in portions of Hoke...
Cumberland... and southern Harnett County. Radar and reporting
gauges indicate that 5 to 10 inches of rain fell in this early
Thursday. Flooding is ongoing... with numerous structures still
threatened... and many roads are still underwater or washed out in
spots. Water levels in area creeks and drainage ditches remain
high or out of their banks. Any additional rainfall tonight will
exacerbate any ongoing flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Fayetteville... Raeford... Lillington... Fort Bragg... Dunn... Godwin...
Pope AFB... Antioch... Hope Mills and Spring Lake.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most
flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
a dam failure in...
northeastern Cumberland County in central North Carolina...
northwestern Sampson County in central North Carolina...

* until 715 PM EDT Friday

* at 715 PM EDT... the dam on Rhodes Lake near Godwin is being
overtopped and may be compromised. A failure of this dam is
possible and would result in flash flooding downstream along the
Black River.

The dam is located along U.S. Route 301 near Baggett Road and if the
dam failed water would surge southeast across U.S. Route 301 and
possibly across Interstate 95 and then downstream on the Black
River.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most
flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.
