Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 8:14 PM CST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 1 am EST /midnight
CST/ Tuesday...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through late Monday
night...

* timing... until Monday morning.

* Surf heights... 4-6 feet increasing to 6-8 feet on Sunday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore. They occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar... as well as in the vicinity of jetties and piers.

Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol flags... and signs
before entering the water. If caught in a rip current do not swim
against it. Face the shore and signal for help. Float or tread
water until the current ends or until rescued.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

Gale Warning
Issued: 7:14 PM EST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Gale Warning remains in effect until 1 PM EST Monday...

* winds... west 30 knots with gusts to 40 knots.

* Waves/seas... 10 to 15 feet with occasional seas up to 17 feet
offshore tonight and early Monday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
