Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:09 AM EDT Sep. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect from 8 am EDT this morning
through Wednesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a high rip
current risk, which is in effect from 8 am EDT this morning
through Wednesday evening.

* Timing... through Wednesday afternoon

* impacts... strong rip currents are forecast along all the
Atlantic beaches of South Florida, which will be hazardous for
those in the surf zone.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
