Issued: 5:52 PM CDT Aug. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a

* flood advisory for...
central Baldwin County in southwestern Alabama...

* until 845 PM CDT

* at 550 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
very heavy rainfall over the advisory area. 1 to 2 inches of rain,
with localized amounts over 3 inches have fallen with these slow
moving storms, and runoff from the heavy rain will result in minor
flooding of low lying areas and ponding of water on area roadways.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Robertsdale, Loxley, Stapleton and Silverhill.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

... A strong thunderstorm will affect the following counties... central
Baldwin County until 615 PM CDT...

At 534 PM CDT, the strong thunderstorm was located near Loxley,
moving south at 10 mph.

Winds of 40 to 50 mph will be possible with this storm, in addition
to numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes and torrential
downpours.

Locations impacted include...
Robertsdale, Loxley, Stapleton and Silverhill.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle. Remember, if you can hear
thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
