... Flood Watch now in effect from Tuesday morning through Friday
afternoon...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* the Jefferson river near Three Forks in southwest Montana.

* From Tuesday morning until further notice.

* At 9 am Monday, the stage was 7.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Major flooding is possible.
* Forecast... flood stage may be early Tuesday morning, then
continue to rise through Friday.
* Impacts... at 8.0 feet... farm buildings flood around Three Forks.
At 8.5 feet... County roads and bridges may have water flowing
over them. Several homes could flood.

* Warmer temperatures are expected to increase snowmelt out of
the mountains. Also, runoff from thunderstorms each day this
week will likely keep rivers and creeks running high and fast.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... A strong thunderstorm will affect northwestern Gallatin County...

At 606 PM MDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Three Forks, or
28 miles west of Bozeman, moving northeast at 15 mph.

Pea size hail and wind gusts to 30 mph are possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Three Forks and Willow Creek.

This includes Highway 287 near mile marker 95.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
