Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 10:28 AM CST Jan. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST
Wednesday...

* timing... precipitation mainly in the form of snow is forecast to
spread west to east across western to central Iowa this
afternoon. A rain and snow mix is likely at times late this
afternoon into this evening... before changing over to all snow
late tonight into Wednesday. Blowing and drifting snow is
anticipated Wednesday as the wind increases.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 2 to 5 inches of snow are
possible. Thunder is possible by the evening and if it does
occur will enhance the snowfall rates leading to localized
higher amounts. The snow may be wet and heavy initially through
tonight.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts as
high as 40 mph are forecast during the day Wednesday.
Substantial visibility restrictions due to blowing and drifting
snow are likely.

* Impacts... roads are likely to become snow covered and very
slick. In addition, the snow and blowing snow will create
visibility restrictions leading to difficult
travel... particularly impacting the rush hour commute this
evening as well as Wednesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and blowing
snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery
roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
