Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 10:06 PM CST Dec. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 PM Saturday
to 6 PM CST Sunday...

* timing... Saturday afternoon to the late afternoon Sunday.

* Storm total snow accumulations... a widespread swath of 3 to 8
inches is likely from a Jefferson to Grinnell line north to the
Minnesota border. The highest amounts of that range are expected
along and north of an Algona to Waterloo line where local
amounts may reach 8 or 9 inches. The Des Moines Metro area will
be on the southern fringe of the snow with little south and as
much as 3 inches north.

* Winds/visibility... southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph with higher
gusts are forecast Saturday afternoon into the night.
Visibility restrictions should vary from a few miles down to
less than a mile during periods of heavier snowfall. Winds
diminish by Sunday morning and lessen the potential for
visibility restrictions.

* Impacts... the primary impacts will be hazardous travel
conditions due to reduced visibility and snow covered roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while
driving.
