Special Statement
Issued: 4:40 AM CST Dec. 11, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Snow expected today...

At 430 am, a large area of snow continued to fall across much of
Wisconsin. The northern edge of the snow extended from near
Rhinelander, to Crandon, to Wausaukee. Some flurries were
occurring north of the main area of snow.

The northward progress of the snow had come to a halt the past
few hours, but should soon resume. Snow will likely expand across
the remainder of northern Wisconsin by shortly after daybreak.

Meanwhile, a band of moderate snow was in the process of
developing from just east of the Minneapolis area, southeast, to
near Milwaukee. This band will shift north with time. Snowfall
rates along and south of Highway 29 (which runs from Wausau to
Shawano to Green Bay to kewaunee) are expected to increase during
the next couple hours as this band moves north. Snowfall rates of
1/2 to 1 inch per hour are possible in the band. In addition, a
band of lake-effect snow showers was moving west across Lake
Michigan. The band could bring a brief period of heavy snow to
some Lakeshore locations between 700 am and 900 am.

Temperatures across the area remained primarily in the teens,
with some single digit temperatures in northern Wisconsin.
Readings are likely to slowly edge up the next several hours.

Given the rather cold temperatures, the snow will accumulate on
roads, leading to hazardous travel conditions. By daybreak,
snowfalls are expected to range from just a trace over the far
north near the Upper Michigan border, to 3 to 4 inches in the
Wisconsin Rapids, Wautoma, and Oshkosh areas.

Travel conditions are likely to worsen as the snow increases and
overspreads the remainder of the area. If you are traveling
early this morning, use extra caution and be sure to allow for
extra travel time to reach your destination.
