Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 11:02 AM CDT Jun. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a

* flood advisory for...
central Winona County in southeastern Minnesota...

* until 100 PM CDT

* at 1055 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Automated rain gauges have measured rainfall rates
exceeding one inch per hour in these thunderstorms. This will
cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Winona, Goodview, Fountain City, Stockton, Rollingstone, Minnesota
City, lock and dam 5 a, and Whitman.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Issued: 10:53 AM CDT Jun. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... A line of strong thunderstorms will affect Buffalo, Winona and
Houston counties...

At 1050 am CDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from south of Lake City, to Saint Charles
and Lanesboro Minnesota. Movement was northeast at 40 mph.

Wind gust of 30 to 45 mph and pea size hail are possible with
these storms.

Some locations that will be impacted include...
Alma to Fountain City, Altura, Winona, Lewiston, Nodine and
Houston.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms with up to
an inch of rain falling in as little as 30 minutes. These rains may
cause localized flooding and ponding of water on roads, especially
in urban areas. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
