Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 3:45 PM CST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch now in effect through Tuesday afternoon...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of north central Illinois and northeast Illinois,
including the following areas, in north central Illinois,
Boone, DeKalb, Lee, Ogle, and Winnebago. In northeast
Illinois, Kane, Lake IL, and McHenry.

* Through Tuesday afternoon.

* Multiple rounds of showers and some thunderstorms are expected
tonight through Tuesday. Widespread rainfall amounts of one and
a half to locally three inches of rain are expected with
isolated higher totals possible.

* The ground remains frozen, therefore much of the rain will
result in rapid runoff. In addition, melting snow will compound
runoff from heavy rainfall. Ice jam break up is also a concern.
Expect rises on area rivers and streams that may result in
flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Dense Fog Advisory
Issued: 8:24 PM CST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Dense fog advisory in effect until 3 am CST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a dense fog
advisory, which is in effect until 3 am CST Tuesday.

* Visibility... to one quarter mile or less. Reports of 100 ft
visibility were reported on Interstate 88 near DeKalb as of 815
PM CST.

* Impacts... poor and rapidly changing visibility in areas of
dense fog will make for hazardous travel.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving... slow down...
use your headlights... and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.
