Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory
Issued: 3:08 PM CDT Jun. 18, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

* temperature... late afternoon temperatures will range from 90 to
95 degrees, with heat index values of 105 to 110. The heat index
will fall below 100 early this evening.

* Timing... the hottest conditions will be through 5 PM. On
Tuesday, the heat index should be a bit lower, but will likely
still be over 100 degrees along and south of I-72 in the
afternoon.

* Impacts... heat illnesses due to prolonged oppressive heat and
humidity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of water, wear light weight and loose
fitting clothing, stay in an air conditioned room if possible,
stay out of the sun and take frequent breaks. Check up on
relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly. Children and pets
should never be left unattended in vehicles, as interiors can
reach lethal temperatures in minutes. Know the signs and symptoms
of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke begins when the
core body temperature reaches around 104 degrees.
