Special Statement
Issued: 7:52 PM CST Dec. 10, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Elevated fire danger Monday afternoon...

The combination of strong and gusty winds, low relative humidity,
and dry surface fuels will lead to elevated fire danger on Monday
afternoon across central, east central and southeast Missouri as
well as parts of southwest Illinois.

Southwest winds will increase by late morning to 15 to 25 mph with
gusts of 30 to 35 mph. The wind will remain strong and gusty
through the afternoon as it shifts to the west and northwest as a
cold front moves across the area. Well above average temperatures
will contribute to low relative humidity with values less than 30
percent in the afternoon.

These weather conditions combined with very dry grasses, dry Leaf
litter, and dry underbrush could result in the rapid spread of
fires. Therefore, outdoor burning is highly discouraged tomorrow.
Care should be taken with open flames and the disposal of
cigarette Butts.
