Special Statement
Issued: 2:31 PM CDT Aug. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Significant weather advisory for torrential rainfall...

Widely scattered to scattered thunderstorms will continue to
develop in the heat of the afternoon across west Kentucky... southern
Illinois and southwest Indiana.

Given very little movement associated with the thunderstorm
activity... these thunderstorms will produce isolated pockets of
torrential rainfall. Rainfall amounts exceeding an inch may occur
in as little as 15 minutes... with rainfall totals near two and a
half inches possible before the storm dissipates.

The outflow of winds from thunderstorms this afternoon may
generate new storms a short distance away. These winds may produce
wind gusts in excess of 40 mph at times and may cause tree limbs
to break off and toss around loose outdoor objects with little
effort.

If you must travel or live in or near where the thunderstorms are
occurring, be watchful for rapid rise in creeks, streams, and
ditches. Keep small children and pets away from areas prone to
flooding when the heavy rain occurs.

Some roadways may become briefly inundated with water. If you can
travel an alternate Route to avoid flooded roads... do so.

Lightning... in addition to heavy rain... can be hazardous with the
thunderstorms. It is best to stay indoors until the storms pass.
Give yourself an extra half hour after the last rumble of thunder
before you venture out again.
