Hard Freeze Warning
Issued: 3:14 PM CST Jan. 16, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Hard freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight to 10 am
CST Wednesday...

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a hard
freeze warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 10 am
CST Wednesday for all of north and central Texas.

* Temperature... temperatures will fall to around 10 degrees
overnight through Wednesday morning with several sites reaching
the single digits.

* Location... all of north and central Texas.

* Duration... temperatures will start to fall to near 10 degrees
around midnight across the Red River. Temperatures elsewhere
will fall to near 10 degrees through sunrise Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will warm into the teens and mid 20s by mid
morning Wednesday.

* Impacts... uninsulated pipes may burst due to the extreme cold.
The cold weather will present extreme danger to pets, plants,
livestock, and people. In addition, any light winds will result
in very low wind chill temperatures.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A hard freeze warning means very cold temperatures of 10 degrees
or less are expected. These conditions may cause uninsulated and
exposed pipes to freeze and burst. To prevent freezing of
pipes... either wrap exposed pipes or allow faucets to slowly drip.
Ensure that irrigation systems are turned off and winterized.
Preparations should be made now to protect any plants that are
sensitive to these extreme temperatures. Also remember to provide
adequate shelter or arrangements for outdoor pets.

In addition, low wind chills are expected and individuals are
urged to dress in layers as frostbite or hypothermia may set in
quickly if skin is exposed to the frigid conditions for prolonged
periods of time.
