Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 7:37 PM CST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 830 PM CST for
Harris... northwestern Galveston... west central Chambers and north
central Brazoria counties...

At 733 PM CST, automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain had
fallen over the area. Up to four inches of rain has already fallen.
Flash flooding is already occurring. Thunderstorms are continuing to
exit the warning area and additional flash flooding is not expected,
but high water is being reported in many locations via Houston
transtar including Interstate 10 at Jensen and Interstate 45 at
north main. Residents are urged to check Road conditions before
departing as low-lying areas and underpasses will take longer for
water to drain.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pasadena, Pearland, League City, Baytown, Friendswood, La Porte, Deer
Park, South Houston, Seabrook, Galena Park, Jacinto City, Webster,
Beach City, Kemah, Clear Lake, greater Fifth Ward, Fourth Ward,
second Ward, greater Eastwood and greater hobby area.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

The National Weather Service in League City has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
northeastern Harris County in southeastern Texas...
southeastern Liberty County in southeastern Texas...
northwestern Galveston County in southeastern Texas...
Chambers County in southeastern Texas...
northern Brazoria County in southeastern Texas...

* until 915 PM CST.

* At 616 PM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Pasadena, southeastern Pearland, northern League City, Baytown,
Friendswood, La Porte, Deer Park, Alvin, Seabrook, Webster,
southern Liberty, Beach City, Kemah, Clear Lake, Barrett,
Channelview, Highlands, Cloverleaf, eastern south belt / Ellington
and Crosby.

Additional rainfall of one to two inches is expected over the area.
This additional rain will make minor flooding.

... Gale watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through
Sunday evening...

* winds... increasing Saturday night into Sunday... west to northwest
25 to 35 knots with gusts up to 45 knots.

* Seas... increasing late Saturday night into Sunday... 5 to 7 feet
nearshore and 8 to 11 feet offshore with occasional heights up
to 14 feet offshore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to 47
knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing and/or
location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide additional
lead time for mariners who may wish to consider altering their plans.
