Winter Storm Watch
Issued: 11:26 AM MST Jan. 19, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday morning through
Saturday evening...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from Friday morning through
Saturday evening.

* Snow accumulations... several inches of snow are expected above
8000 feet with upwards of a foot of snow above 10000 feet.

* Timing... while periods of light to moderate snow are expected
tonight and early Friday... the more persistent and heavier snow
is expected to begin late Friday into Friday night and Saturday.
Snow will dissipate early Saturday evening.

* Winds... during the day Friday strong west winds sustained at 20
to 35 mph will be common with occasional gusts of 30 to 50 mph.
Winds will strengthen more during the day Saturday with
sustained speeds of 25 to 40 mph with occasional gusts of 35 to
55 mph. This will produce areas of blowing snow... further
reducing visibility.

* Snow levels... temperatures will be cold enough for snow at all
locations.

* Local impacts... high terrain roads are expected to become snow
packed and icy with reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow.
Travel will become difficult or impossible at high elevations
above 8000 feet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable
for a hazardous winter weather event in and close to the watch
area. Monitor the latest forecasts at weather.Gov/abq... listen
to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite media outlet.
