Winter Storm Watch
Issued: 4:12 AM MST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from this evening through late
Monday night...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from this evening through late
Monday night.

* Snow accumulations... significant amounts up to 6 inches at
elevations near or below 7500 feet with 6 to 12 inches possible
over the higher terrain.

* Timing... snow will begin this evening... may taper off Monday
as the snow level rises somewhat then will become more
widespread and heavier Monday night. Snow should begin to taper
off by early Tuesday.

* Winds... west sustained at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35
mph. Stronger sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to
around 50 mph possible over ridgetops and exposed areas Monday.

* Snow levels... temperatures will be cold enough for snow at all
locations tonight and early Monday. The snow level may rise to
around 7500 feet by Monday afternoon but is expected to lower
again Monday night.

* Local impacts... roads may become snowpacked and icy... such as
Highway 550 from the Farmington area to Cuba and Highway 64/84
from Dulce to Chama. Areas of reduced visibilities in blowing
snow will add to the hazardous travel conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable
for a hazardous winter weather event in and close to the watch
area. Monitor the latest forecasts at weather.Gov/abq... listen
to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite media outlet.
