Watches & Warnings

High Wind Warning
Issued: 3:37 AM MST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning in effect from 9 am this morning to 5 PM MST
this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 9 am this morning to 5 PM
MST this afternoon. The high wind watch is no longer in effect.

* Location... along and east of New Mexico's Central Mountain chain.

* Winds... west 30 to 40 mph with gusts around 60 mph.

* Timing... winds will strengthen through the morning, then peak in
strength during the early to mid afternoon, before weakening
with sunset.

* Visibility... may be locally reduced below 3 miles in dust prone
locations.

* Local impacts... very strong cross winds will make driving
hazardous on north to south oriented roads, like I-25 around Las
Vegas and northward over Raton Pass. Unsecured objects may
become airborne, and lightweight structures may topple.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember, a High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 5:26 AM MST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect from noon today to 7 PM MST
this evening...

* area and timing... northeast Highlands, northeast plains, middle
Rio Grande Valley, and the Sandia, Manzano, and Gallinas
Mountains this afternoon into the early evening.

* 20 foot winds... west 25 to 45 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph
this afternoon.

* Relative humidity... minimum values of 8 to 14.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly
and will be hard to control. Long range spotting and extreme
fire behavior will be possible. Outdoor burning should not be
done.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of this red flag warning.
