The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 11 am this morning to 9 PM
MDT this evening. A high wind watch has also been issued. This
high wind watch is in effect from Friday morning through Friday
evening.

* Location... Raton Pass and Johnson Mesa.

* Winds... southwest 30 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph today.
Winds will turn north northwest on Friday at 35 to 50 mph with
gusts up to 65 and perhaps 70 mph.

* Timing... winds will strengthen around mid day today, then become
very strong during the mid to late afternoon. Speeds will trend
downward with sunset, but still remain breezy to windy. A
resurgence of the winds is then expected Friday morning, lasting
throughout the day.

* Visibility... dropping to 1 to 3 miles at times in dust prone
locations today.

* Local impacts... unsecured objects may become airborne and power
lines may topple over. Power outages will be possible. Cross
winds will be dangerous, especially for high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember, a High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
7 PM MDT this evening...

* area and timing... much of the eastern plains of New Mexico this
afternoon through early evening.

* 20 foot winds... south to southwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts 55
to to 65 mph. Turning westerly by late afternoon.

* Relative humidity... 9 to 15 percent.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly
and will be hard to control. Long range spotting and extreme
fire behavior will be possible. Outdoor burning should not be
done.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of this red flag warning.
