Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 6:54 AM PST Jan. 16, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect through Tuesday
evening...

* hazards... surf of 3 to 6 feet will arrive on exposed west facing
beaches this morning and will continue through Tuesday evening.
There will be local sets to 7 feet across Ventura County
beaches. Surf will subside some by Tuesday night but will
increase again on Wednesday as another large long period swell
moves into the region.

* Impacts... dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves are expected
due to the elevated surf. Sneaker waves can suddenly wash people
off their feet in the surf zone or from rocks and jetties.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats to beach and
surf zone safety are expected or occurring. Caution should be
used when in or near the water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current remain calm. Don't fight the current. Swim in a
direction following the shoreline. When out of the current...
swim back to shore. If tired... float or tread water until out of
the rip current. If unable to escape... face the shore and call
or wave for help.
