Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 7:08 AM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in the San Francisco Bay area has issued
a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southeastern Santa Clara County in northern California...

* until 100 PM PST

* at 703 am PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash
flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* This warning is being issued specifically for west little llagas
creek through Morgan Hill. The stream gage on W. Little llagas is
indicating rapidly rising water levels that are approaching flood
stage and are very likely to exceed it in response to additional
rainfall this morning. Weather radar shows additional convective
activity headed over the Santa Cruz Mountains towards Morgan Hill.

* Other areas in the vicinity of Morgan Hill may experience
flooding. Additional flash flood warnings or areal flood warnings
could be issued is flooding concerns expand.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate
precautions to protect life and property.

San Jose, San Mateo, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Santa Cruz,
Cupertino, San Bruno, Pacifica, Menlo Park, Saratoga, Los Gatos,
Burlingame, San Carlos, Belmont, Millbrae, Corralitos, Scotts
Valley, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough and Capitola.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, urban areas, highways,

lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

... Gale Warning remains in effect until 7 am PST this morning...
... Small Craft Advisory remains in effect from 7 am this morning
to 10 PM PST this evening...

* winds: southwesterly winds 20 to 30 kt... gusts to 45 kt in the
morning.

* See the coastal waters forecast (cwfmtr) or our marine Page at
http://weather.Gov/sanfrancisco/marine.Php for more details.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.
Inexperienced mariners... especially those operating smaller
vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
