Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 3:50 AM MST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 PM this evening to 5 am
MST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect from 6 PM this
evening to 5 am MST Tuesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer
in effect.

* Location... eastern San Juan above 10000 feet... and the Sawatch
and mosquito ranges above 11000 feet... including Wolf Creek and
Monarch passes.

* Cause and timing... a new storm system will bring another period
of moderate to heavy snow beginning tonight and continuing
through early Tuesday morning.

* Snow accumulation... 8 to 18 inches across the Sawatch and
mosquito ranges... with 1 to 2 feet for the the eastern San Juan
Mountains.

* Wind... west to southwest winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55
mph on Monday... becoming west 15 to 30 mph Monday night.

* Impact... roads will become snowpacked and visibilities poor in
blowing and drifting snow. Hazardous travel conditions will be
likely over the mountain passes and avalanche danger will
increase again into Tuesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
