The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a dense
fog advisory, which is in effect until 4 am CST Saturday.

* Visibility... reduced to one quarter of a mile... or less.

* Impacts... severely reduced visibilities... resulting in extremely
hazardous driving conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be
reduced to less than one quarter mile. If driving... slow down...
use low-beam headlights... and leave plenty of distance ahead of
you.

... Gale watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through
Sunday evening...

* winds... northwest at 26 to 37 knots with gusts up to 45 knots.

* Seas... 9 to 11 feet nearshore... and 10 to 12 feet offshore.

* Bay conditions... very Rough Bay waters.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A gale watch is issued when the risk of gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots has significantly increased... but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.

Issued: 1:44 PM CST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning
through Sunday afternoon for strong winds and low humidity for
fire weather zones 248, 249, 250, 251, 252, 253, 254, 255, 256,
and 257...

* affected area... fire weather zones 248, 249, 250, 251, 252,
253, 254, 255, 256, and 257.

* Wind... surface winds northwest 25 to 35 gusting to 45 mph. 20-
foot winds northwest 20 to 30 gusting to 40 mph.

* Humidity... decreasing into the mid teens west of U.S. 77/I-69e
Sunday afternoon... and into the upper teens and lower 20s east
of U.S. 77/I-69e to the coast.

* Thunderstorms... not expected.

* Highest threat... is located across the mid and Upper Valley
early Sunday afternoon when winds and relative humidity
values will be optimized.

* Impacts... any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended. Avoid contact between hot
objects and grasses... which can burn hot and fast.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. In general... these conditions include
sustained 20 foot winds of 25 mph or greater... humidity ranging
from below 25 percent in Zapata County to below 45 percent along
the coast... each lasting for 2 hours or more... and cured fuels.
Humidity below 25 percent in most areas will trigger fire danger
at lower wind speeds. Listen for later forecasts and possible red
flag warnings.
