... Area rivers running high...

Warmer than normal temperatures over the past several days has
produced greater than normal snow and ice melt, resulting in
rising waters on the chilkat, taiya and Skagway rivers. At
present, the taiya is below bankfull and the chilkat is just
above bankfull. These rivers are exhibiting a diurnal trend,
rising in the afternoon and evening in response to warm
temperatures and then falling during the early morning hours.

Currently, flooding is not expected and area rivers are being
closely watched by the National Weather Service forecast office in
Juneau.

Residents and visitors who recreate along these rivers should
remain alert for the possibility of changing conditions and watch
for updates from this office over the next few days.

present, the taiya is below bankfull and the chilkat is just
above bankfull. These rivers are exhibiting a diurnal trend,
rising in the afternoon and evening in response to warm
temperatures and then falling during the early morning hours.

Currently, flooding is not expected and area rivers are being
closely watched by the National Weather Service forecast office in
Juneau.
