Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 11:09 PM AST Feb. 22, 2018 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM AST Friday...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through Saturday
afternoon...

* waves and surf... seas 10 to 12 feet with breaking waves between
15 to 19 feet.

* Location... northwest through northeast beaches of Puerto Rico,
Culebra, and the beaches of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

* Timing... high surf through 6 PM Friday. High rip current risk
through Saturday afternoon.

* Impacts... strong currents that can carry away even the best of
swimmers. Large breaking waves that can result in beach
erosion.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.
