Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 3:20 AM EDT Sep. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk now in effect through Wednesday
afternoon...
... High surf advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM
EDT Wednesday...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a high
surf advisory... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM
EDT Wednesday.

* Location... the beaches of southern New Jersey and Delaware.

* Risk of rip currents... high.

* Surf height... 4 to 7 feet.

* Timing and tides... low tide along the ocean front will be early
this morning and in the evening hours tonight. High surf
conditions will develop this evening and will continue through
at least Wednesday.

* Impacts... dangerous surf and beach erosion.

* Outlook... the threat for dangerous rip currents will likely be
high for much of the upcoming week. High surf conditions are
likely through Thursday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

There is a high risk of rip currents. A high risk of rip currents
implies that wind and/or wave conditions will support the
development of very strong rip currents. These rip currents will
be life threatening to anyone who enters the surf.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
